NO ORDINARY FAMILY: ZOFFANY'S PAINTING OF THE FITZGERALDS OF TURLOUGH (1764)

LAST CHANCE TO SEE THIS UNIQUE EXHIBITION IN THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF IRELAND-COUNTRY LIFE
WHICH ENDS THIS SUNDAY 28 APRIL 2013.

One of the most unique exhibitions to have come to the NMI-Country Life in many years - No Ordinary Family: Zoffany's painting of the Fitzgeralds of Turlough (1764) - comes to an end this Sunday 28th April.

The Fitzgeralds owned lands in Mayo from the 1650s and they built their homes at Turlough Park from the early 18th century. George Robert (‘The Fighting Fitzgerald') was a renowned duellist and was involved in a number of disputes and family quarrels. He was found guilty and hanged for murder in Castlebar, Co. Mayo in 1786. Visitors to the exhibition can also see a pair of duelling pistols, similar to those that would have been used by George Robert Fitzgerald, which are on display in the Landlord's Library in Turlough Park.

250 years since the painting originally hung in Turlough Park, little did the Fitzgeralds imagine that the painting would one-day return to their original home, now occupied by the National Museum of Ireland.
The exhibition ends on Sunday 28 April '13.
