01. CULTURE NIGHT PROGRAMME TO AIR ON IRISH TV NEXT WEEK
The NMI-Country Life Culture Night event: 20 YEARS ON - RIVERDANCE & ITS ORIGINS IN MAYO 5000 will air on the County Matters programme on Irish TV, Tuesday night next, October 14th at 7.30pm. Viewers can watch the programme on Sky 191, Freesat 400, Eircom eVision 191 and live online on www.irishtv.ie. This coverage was sponsored by Irish TV.
03. PROGRAMME OF EVENTS
Fri 17th October:

11.00am-1.00pm. Drop in activity: Knitting Circle: Fall Back to Winter. Get tips on how to keep toasty in the Winter months by knitting your won hats, scarves and jumpers with the Museum's Knitting Circle. Adults & Children 7yrs+. No booking required.

Sat 18th October:

3.00-4.00pm. Talk. The Hang House Stories. Join prison historian Séan Reynolds to hear about Mountjoy Prison, past and present in conjunction with the ‘Preserving the Peace' exhibition. Adults. Booking required.

Sun 19th October:

2.00-5.00pm. Family Event: Get On Your Bike! Join the Museum, Green-Schools Travel, the Road Safety Authority, Mayo Sports Partnership and Mayo County Council Road Safety Office for a bike themed afternoon.

2-4.00pm: Come along and find out all you need to know about bike safety, road skills and how to keep your bike in top shape. View bikes from long ago in the Museum's exhibition and check out how you can use a bike to create electricity.

4.00pm: Group Cycle: Bring your bike and join the team for a group cycle from Turlough to Castlebar. Family. Booking required.

Sat 25th October:

3.00-4.00pm. Talk. Crafts and Trades of the Irish Travelling Community. Join Irish Folklife curator Rosa Meehan to explore the Museum's collection of objects relating to traveller traditions and trade, through an illustrated talk and some handling objects. You are also invited to view these objects in the Museum's permanent exhibition. Adults & children 12yrs +. Booking required.

04. TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS
Preserving the Peace: Policing on the Island of Ireland: 1814-2014
The Peace Preservation Act of 1814 allowed for the creation of the Peace Preservation Force which is seen by many as the precursor to the establishment of the Irish Constabulary and of the modern police services on the island of Ireland. To mark this bicentenary, the National Museum of Ireland-Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo has opened Preserving the Peace: Policing on the Island of Ireland: 1814-2014, a major new exhibition dedicated to Irish policing on 14 June 2014. The exhibition will run until Easter 2015 and forms part of the National Museum of Ireland's Decade of Commemorations calendar of events. The exhibition focuses on organised policing over two hundred years on the island, exploring the degree to which standard policing has metamorphosed or remained static against the backdrop of British and Irish rule. · 100 OBJECTS MUSEUM TRAIL

In a partnership between the National Museum of Ireland (NMI), the Irish Times and the Royal Irish Academy, 100 objects have been chosen by journalist Fintan O'Toole to take us through the history of people in Ireland over 7,000 years. 4 of these objects can be seen in the NMI-Country Life, Turlough Park.

· No. 82 EMIGRANT'S TEAPOT, 1850-1950.

· No. 93 BOYNE CORACLE, 1928

· No. 95 EMIGRANT'S SUITCASE, 1950s.

No. 66 CRUCIFIXION STONE, 1740 & No. 77 WICKER CRADLE, 19th & 20th Centuries are also from the NMI-Country Life's Folklife collection and are based in NMI-Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks, Dublin.

Café Art Project: New exhibition "Onwards" now open
Luisne Art Project was established to provide participants from Crann Mór Centre with the opportunity of exploring their creative potential. The group has attained a very high level of artistic excellence in a variety of arts practices: painting, print, mosaic, three-dimensional work, animation and creative writing. This new exhibition of work is a collection of familiar themes; landscapes, favourite rooms, objects and animals. The ideas have been developed through different mediums over months of workshops facilitated by the artist Breda Murphy. It also features work created during workshops with the artist Breda Burns who was a founding member of the project. In addition to the café exhibition there is a collection of large outdoor work on display on the grounds of the museum. It is located among the trees on the left, just after you enter by the main gates. All the work can be seen throughout the month of October. Luisne Art Project is supported by Mayo County Council Arts Office and Western Care with administrative support from TACU Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe.

06. MEMORY BOOK PROJECT
Your Stories - Our Histories: Memory Book Project
During your Museum visit, please take a seat at our Memory Book to record personal memories and stories related to the objects and exhibitions you have encountered in the Museum. The Memory Book form can be downloaded and returned to the Museum. This form can be completed even if you haven't been to the Museum yet as we would still like to hear your memories relating to Irish country life.
