Power & Privilege Photography Competition

The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life has launched a new secondary school level photography competition, ‘Power & Privilege Today.' The museum challenges secondary students to capture the image that they think best conveys the idea of 'Power & Privilege Today' in 2012. Is it a big house, a new car, or the latest pair of trainers -- or is it something more subtle?

The photography competition runs alongside the museum's temporary exhibition POWER AND PRIVILEGE: PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE BIG HOUSE IN IRELAND 1858-1922, which runs until end May 2012. This exhibition is a collection of photographs from the National Photographic Archive circa 1858 -1922 that show us what was considered to be power and privilege long ago.

All secondary students are invited to submit an entry. Photographs must be the student's original work, and only one entry per student can be submitted. Entries should be emailed to photocomp@museum.ie. The email must also include the student's name, age, school, class, teacher's name, title of the photograph, and a brief statement of no more than 50 words explaining how the photograph matches the theme ‘Power & Privilege Today.' Images must be no larger than 2MB. Entries will be accepted until 25th May 2012. A variety of prizes are on offer, with first prize being a new digital camera.
