Cycling the country

Primary schools are invited to register now for a fun, free event on green travel and bike safety, taking place on May 10 at the Museum of Country Life. The Green Schools Travel Action Day is suitable for third to sixth class pupils. The event will teach young cyclists all they need to know about bike safety, road skills and how to keep their bikes in top shape. The event is organised by Green Schools Travel, the Road Safety Authority, Mayo Sports Partnership and Mayo County Council's Road Safety Office. Participants will also get to explore the exhibition, Cycling the Country in the museum galleries, to learn about the history of the bicycle in Ireland and to view some excellent examples of bicycles and cycling accessories from the past. St. Patrick's Day

The Museum of Country Life has two great events for families to enjoy over the St. Patrick's Day holiday weekend.

Storyteller Rab Fulton will be at the museum on Saturday, March 18, spinning captivating and magical tales based on the folklore and myths surrounding our most famous saint. Tales of St. Patrick, takes place from 11.30am to 12.30pm and is suitable for adults and children aged four to seven. The second event, Stories of Saints and Snakes, is from 2 to 3pm and is suitable for adults and children aged seven plus. These events are free but booking is required. Trace your roots

Anyone with an interest in researching their family tree is invited to come along to the next meeting of the Mayo Genealogy Group from 11.30am to 1pm this Saturday, March 11. Get some free practical tips on genealogy research. No booking required and new researchers are welcome.


Museum opening hours

The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 5pm, and on Sundays from 2 to 3pm. Brambles Café in the courtyard is open during museum opening hours with extended opening on Sundays from 12noon.
