The Family on Paradise Pier is an extraordinarily kaleidoscopic family saga set in Ireland before and during the Second World War. Based on the life of the artist and alternative thinker, Sheila Fitzgerald, who first came to Turlough in Mayo as a bride in the 1930s and later returned to live there as an old woman, Bolger superbly recreates the life of her family driven by idealism, racked by politics and united by love. Described by the Irish Times as "a master storyteller", Bolger - one of Ireland's best known writers - will be reading from and discussing those parts of the novel set in Turlough and Castlebar.
