FEBRUARY
Tuesday 8th February: 10.00am 11.30am & 2.00pm
Workshop. Pancake Tuesday!
Join staff of the Education & Outreach Department and learn about the traditions of Shrove Tuesday and afterwards make and toss pancakes!
Age 7+
 
Wednesday 9th February: 2.30pm-3.30pm
Talk & Demonstration. Plain and Purl and some knitting traditions
From a small but interesting collection of knitted objects in the Museum, curator Anne O’Dowd talks about the history of knitting and the development of patterns. Age 7+
 
Sunday 13th February: 2.30pm-3.30pm
Workshop. Prepare for Valentine’s Day!
Make a Valentine card for someone special using the museum exhibitions as inspiration, with artist Agnes Nyland. Age 7+
 
Wednesday 16th February: 2.30pm-4.00pm
Demonstration. Basketmaking
Join Basketmaker Linda Scott as she weaves baskets from willow rods. Age 7+
 
Sunday 20th February: 2.30pm-4.30pm
Talk & Demonstration. Seaweed For Healthy Living
Join Dr. Prannie Rhattigan as she identifies and gives an overview of the traditional uses of seaweed found on Irish shores. Age 7+
 
Wednesday 23rd February: 2.30pm-3.30pm
Workshop. Wattle Weaving!
In Summer 2003 a house building skills project took place on site. Join wattle weaver Joe Gowran for this ‘hands on’ workshop. Age 7+

Irish Seed Savers Association
Talk & Workshop. Potatoes Past & Present
Join Frank Bouchier, Irish Seed Savers Association, and find out all about potatoes. Afterwards plant a few potatoes in the grounds of Turlough Park House. Age 7+

Wednesday 2nd March: 2.30pm-3.30pm
Demonstration. Blacksmithing
Experience the craft of blacksmithing with local craftsman Ray Munnelly. Age 7+

To mark International Women’s Day, join Caitríona Clear, Department of History NUI Galway, author of "Women of the House: Women’s household work in Ireland 1921-1961" (2000). Age 14+

Workshop. Prepare for St. Patrick’s Day!
Join members of the Education & Outreach Department to make traditional
St. Patrick’s Day crosses. Age 7+

Workshop. Making Easter Cards!
See the Easter cards on display in the Calendar Year Section of the museum and make your own cards for Easter with artist Agnes Nyland. Age 7+
 
Wednesday 23rd March: 2.30pm-3.30pm
Workshop. Decorating Easter Eggs!
Visit the Calendar Year Section of the museum and see the decorated eggs on display. Afterwards decorate eggs with staff of the Education & Outreach Department. Age 7+
 
Sunday 27th March: 2.30-4.30pm
Treasure Hunt. It’s Easter Sunday!
Join Brendan McDonnell of the Education & Outreach Department in the hunt for Easter Eggs and also find the decorated eggs on display in the museum. Age 7+
 
Wednesday 30th March: 2.30-3.30pm
Strawboys Hats
"Usually they wore, hats, masks or cloaks made of straw"
Strawboys often attended weddings and joined in the celebrations. Join local craftsman Ted Kelly as he weaves straw to make a strawboys hat. Age 7+
