Cultural Diversity and Difference in Mayo

A series of 4 evening sessions to include input and discussions on cultural diversity and difference in Mayo

"The more people who are on the margins the weaker is the centre …….. we all have a stake in building a future which respects and celebrates diversity a generous sharing Ireland that encompasses many traditions and cultures and creates space of all its people".

Mrs. Mary McAleese, President of Ireland-24th February 2000

The cultural composition of Mayo is changing. This reality calls for initiatives both locally and nationally to enable people of different backgrounds to live together in harmony. The organisers of this series believe that in working together, discussion will be created to encourage the people in Mayo to build a future that embraces cultural diversity and difference.

Starting on 30th September at 8pm a series of 4 presentations will take place at the M. Bernard Lecture Theatre, GMIT Castlebar.

  • 30th September 2003: "Prejudice and Racism in Ireland" – Michael MacGreil SJ. Chair: Dr. Katie Sweeney, Head of Centre GMIT, Castlebar Campus.
