"Oh the weather outside is frightful" . . . but only a week ago we were singing "Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day".

One Week Ago

The last week got me to thinking about an exercise our geography teacher gave us for homework one night. He asked us to provide a one word description for the type of weather we had in Ireland.

Blue skies over Mayo, you'd think it was summer !

I suppose many people would have said 'damp' or 'wet' but I don't remember the winters and summers of my youth being all that bad (and hey we did have three months off to enjoy whatever weather we did get).

We all came up with various answers to his question and he offered twenty quid the following day if anyone could come up with the word he was looking for . . . nobody did.

The word was 'changeable' !

One Week On

Driving in the snow :

Remember folks when driving on snow or slush your vehicle doesn't respond in the same manner as it would in the dry or wet. Ice, slush, and snow are the ingredients for skids so when you aren't use to driving in these condition the best thing to do is to take it slow.

Treacherous driving conditions - drive slowly folks !

Any seasoned winter driver will tell you that the key to driving in the snow is to give yourself more time to react. When steering your car try to avoid big movements. Allow your car to make turns under slower speeds and at a bigger radius.
