11 Castlebar Swimmers qualify for Community Games National Finals

The 2004 Mayo Community Games Finals were held in Claremorris on Sun 23 May . Castlebar club swimmers took 9 individual gold medals as well as a gold for the Boys U13 Relay team of James Sweeney , Tony Sweeney , Rory Tuohy and Nicholas Quinn. These swimmers go forward to represent their county at the national finals which will be held in Mosney from 20th August – 22nd August.

Congratulations and Well Done to the swimmers who are making the ‘trip to Mosney’ and good luck in your respective events in August.

Castlebar swimming club hosted B & C gala which featured Freestyle and Butterfly events on 16th May. Clubs from Westport, Claremorris, Ballina and Sligo, as well as Castlebar and the swimmers from the home club certainly did themselves proud.

Other swimmers to bring credit to the club included Patrick Sweeney, Owen Thornton, Conor Tuohy, Aine Leneghan, Megan Walsh, Julia Mc Cormack, Telissa Walsh, Caitriona Walsh, Mark Regan, Vicki Staunton, Ita Heneghan, Laura Breslin, Juliet Connaughton, Deirdre Walsh, Rory Tuohy and Conor Waters.
In the relay events the boys U 10 team of Tony Sweeney, Patrick Sweeney, Cathal Lavelle and Conor O Malley took gold in the 4 x 50 freestyle as did the girls 13 & over team of Juliet Connaughton, Deirdre Walsh, Elaine Joyce and Doireann Dever . The girls U 10 freestyle relay team of Deirdre McGauran, Julia McCormack, Caitriona Walsh and Maria Walsh took silver as did the boys under 13 team of Rory Tuohy, Frances Walsh, Conor waters and Mark Regan.
