From www.castlebar.ie Photography The historic Recoleta cemetery in Buenos Aires is where the 'whose-who' of Argentina are buried. There I found a Celtic cross marking the grave of a Fr. Anthony Fahy of Loughrea, Co. Galway, who was born in 1804, arrived in Argentina in 1843 and died in 1871. He established a large number of boy's schools, and was clearly highly regarded. His Celtic cross gravestone was imported from Ireland where it was carved by Earley & Co. This is the same firm mentioned on page 168 of "Through Fagan's Gates" which, in 1919, proposed a carving of "Christ Blessing the Little Children" for the tympanum over the main door of the Church of the Holy Rosary. © Copyright 2003 by www.castlebar.ie and the author |
