From www.castlebar.ie MHAS Website About 2˝ miles west of Ballycastle a side road to the left leads you to Doonfeeney Graveyard where a 17-18 ft. high pillar-stone stands. The stone has two crosses incised on its west face and may be a ‘Christianised’ bronze age monument. The view, facing east, is magnificent, and the ‘sea-stack’ at Downpatrick Head is clearly visible. About 3 miles west is the Ceide Fields Interpretive Centre with the Ceide Cliffs close-by. These sites are well worth a visit and are an easy one hour's drive from Castlebar. The top picture below shows the stone and the view to the east. The lower photo show the incised crosses which are just about visible in the picture but which are much clearer in reality.
