Connaught Ground Hurling Blitz

Congratulations and commiserations to the under 12 Mitchels hurlers who got to the ‘A’ final of the ‘Connaught Ground Hurling Blitz’ in Pearses last Saturday, but were beaten by Roscommon Gaels. Earlier in the playoffs they had actually beaten Roscommon Gaels, Castlerea and Pearses. They then defeated St. Dominicks in the semi-final and met Roscommon Gaels again in the final. They led in the final for most of the game but a late goal by Roscommon Gaels saw them take the title. Well done to our ‘B’ team who also took part in the competition and to the Ballyvary team who travelled up with us to Pearses. It was a wonderful day for hurling and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks to all the team mentors and parents who travelled and to Pearses who organised the day.

Under 12s To Play in Galway League

The under 12s play their first game in the Galway league this week when the take on Barna on Wednesday evening. This is a new departure for our teams who are hoping to continue to up their standard by playing against the top teams in Galway. While Barna is not a traditional hurling stronghold in Galway, they have been making considerable strides with underage hurling. We wish the team well in their new venture.

Race Night to raise funds for Juvenile Hurling.

Last year our parents' committee ran a very successful race night and this year they hope to repeat it. The race night will take place in Coadys Bar on Friday June 2nd. The race night will help to support the running of such things as our Schools Coaching Project, Hurling on the Green, The Hurling Academy, The Suck Valley League, Féile na nGael and all our underage training and competitions. Horses will cost €30 and race sponsorship is €100. A ‘Roy Keane signed Celtic jersey’ presented to the club by Specsavers will also be auctioned on the night. Contact any member of the club to support.
