The Eva Quartet to perform in Christchurch, Castlebar As part of Mayo County Council’s Summer Music Series, the Eva Quartet from Bulgaria will perform in Christchurch, the Mall, Thursday 6th July at 8pm Ten years ago four of the youngest soloists of the world famous The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices folk choir embarked upon a separate career under the name of Eva Quartet. They are Gergana Dimitrova, Sofia Kovacheva, Evelina Spassova and Daniela Stoichkova. The Eva Quartet are one of the most acclaimed and celebrated exponents of the remarkable Bulgarian vocal singing tradition.The four singers perform with such a virtuosity that it gives the impression of listening to just one magical multi-layered voice – singing a blend of authentic and haunting Balkan folklore and church hymns from the region as well as modern music. A must for any fans of choral music. Mayo County Council’s Summer Music Series runs throughout the month of July with an eclectic programme of diverse music events across the county. The line up this year includes Prey, Céide with Máirtin O’ Connor, Seamie O’ Dowd, Cathal Hayden, Gary O’ Briain, Dermot Byrne & Dirt Road, Michéal Ó Súilleabhain, Mary Staunton with Alec Finn, Mary Custy & Don Stiffe, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, O’ Mambo, Declan de Barra and the Two Time Polka. All events are free, but booking is essential in all cases due to the demand.
