Crime Identified as Main Election Issue
A poll run by The Connaught Telegraph showed that the biggest issue of concern for the Mayo electorate was that of crime. The poll showed that 30% of the people surveyed were concerned about the escalation of crime. After crime, came the issue of neglect of the West, which came in at 19%. Following closely behind was Health Issues at 18% and after that Planning at 12%. Concerns about Roads came in fifth place with 11%. The Environment and the Sleaze Factor were both 4% and the Need for Jobs was only an issue for 1% of those surveyed. Five hundred and six people were interviewed in all.

€6million windfarm proposed for Bangor Erris
A Co. Kerry based company Saorgus Energy Ltd. has made a decision to build a windfarm in Bangor Erris. The €6million project will include 51 wind turbines and a 50-metre anemometer mast. The company has examined many sites for the location of the windfarm and finally chose the site in Bangor Erris after taking into consideration its proximity to a connection point to the power grid.

'The Shoe' goes head to head with the old enemy again
In his column in the Telegraph Will 'The Shoe' McNeely has opened his heart to his readers and told them that his cancer has returned - this time in his liver. Having successfully battled with bowel cancer 3 years ago, this larger than life man has now had to face another battle. He tells us that his doctors feel they can control the situation with the severe chemotherapy regime he is now on. He asks for our prayers, and we here at Castlebar.ie add our plea to you all to remember him in your prayers and we wish him a speedy recovery.
