Shock as Mayo suffers cutback on €180 million road's projects
A decision has been made by the government to slash the funding for the design and planning of National Primary Routes. €180 million worth of schemes in Mayo will be affected in these cutbacks. This will cause long delays in the development and upgrading of Mayo's roads. One of the schemes affected will be the Castlebar-Westport section of the N5.

Lucky Escape in Knock Plane Crash
On Sunday last a small aeroplane crashed while landing in Knock airport. The small eight-seater plane, carrying six passengers, was caught in a crosswind and went off the edge of the runway as it landed at 3 p.m. None of the passengers was badly injured. The airport closed down until 10:45 p.m. that night leaving passengers who were due to fly to Manchester that day with an 8-hour delay. All other flights due to arrive in Knock airport were diverted.

Mayo Concert Orchestra launch CD
The Mayo Concert Orchestra launched their CD last Thursday at their annual concert. Also performing at the concert was a band from Hoechstadt in Germany, Castlebar's twin town. Speaking at the launch was the chairman of Mayo County Council, Cllr. Jimmy Maloney. He praised the band members for their commitment and wished them success in the launch of the CD. He also welcomed the visitors from Hoechstadt.
