Gaelteacht areas threatened
A report for the redefinition of Gaelteacht boundaries has gone to the government and if the government accepts the proposals made in the report, Gaelteacht areas in Mayo will suffer greatly. The Mayo Gaelteacht areas will then only consist of 1,921 native Irish speakers and only four of the areas in North-west Mayo and South-west Mayo would survive. The point of the report was to redefine the boundaries to exclude areas where less than half the population of the area use Irish as a daily language.

While Mayo lost against Galway at McHale Park last Sunday, the reality is that for large parts of the game Mayo was the better team. Mayo worked hard at holding the All-Ireland Champions to a 2-point victory. Some forward planning on attacking formation will put Mayo in a very strong position for their next match. They have the basics right and are in good condition.
