Kenny to get a civic reception
Castlebar Town Council members have congratulated Enda Kenny on his election as the Fine Gael Leader. They have proposed that a civic reception be held for Mr Kenny. They said that Deputy Kenny will bring life back to the party and it will also be a great boost for Castlebar and indeed County Mayo. They also hoped that in five years time Mr. Kenny will become the first Taoiseach from Castlebar.

Mayo crash victims have 30% less survival chances
Half of Mayo lies outside the "golden hour" response time for ambulances according to a report released by the Western Health Board. The fatality risk rises by up to 30% for patients who are not returned to the hospital within the "golden hour" limit. Studies in the US and England show that one third of trauma deaths could be prevented by "implementation of airway and circulatory procedures at the accident scene". Deputy Jerry Cowley has made a call for a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). At the moment the areas of Erris and Achill and some of the areas in south and east Mayo are beyond the "golden hour" response time.
