From www.castlebar.ie General The website of Castlebar town, Castlebar.ie is requesting the people of Castlebar to delve into the old shoeboxes in their attics and cupboards (and wherever else the people of Castlebar store old photos) in search of old photos of the town which are in considerable demand on the Castlebar website. This is particularly so among regular visitors to the site's very popular "Nostalgia Board", where recent discussions have covered, amongst other things, Old Ballrooms of Mayo and 1960's Go Kart Racing on a town circuit around the Mall, Down Ellison Street, Right at Castle Street and up by the old convent. The Nostalgia Board now has almost 5000 individual postings from people interested in old Castlebar and times gone by.
An excellent selection of old photos are already viewable on the site. These cover such diverse subjects as The Four Days Walks in the 1960's, Lough Lannagh, Old Head and other local views in the 1970's along with older photos covering scenes of the town from the turn of the 19th Century onwards. Together with over 5000 photographs taken specially for the website in the last four years these make www.castlebar.ie a unique resource.
