Suicide drivers – a growing menace
The head of Mayo Garda Division, Chief Supt John Carey, has spoken of his concern that some mortorists are committing suicide by deliberately crashing their vehicles. He stated “there appears to have been two fatal accidents in the past year which were deliberately caused by the drivers”.

Life’s a drag for smoking patients!
Nicotine-craving patients at Mayo General Hospital must go outside in order to indulge their habit. Mr Tim Quinn, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, said that it was unacceptable to see so many patients sitting in their bathrobes at the front door of the hospital having a smoke. Dr Sheelah Ryan, CEO of the Western Health Board, said that the matter would be looked into.

Jumping Fish lands in Dinghy
Skipper Donal Mc Ellin from Castlebar has an unusual catch on Monday when a large pollock jumped into his dinghy as he was berthing at Inishturk Island. He was going ashore from his cruiser ‘Quo Vadis’ , which was moored outside the pier, when the fish leaped out of the water and landed in the bottom of the dinghy. The fish was quickly dispatched for breakfast.
