From www.castlebar.ie General Important announcement for business in the 094 area Due to growth in communications needs over recent years, there has been a large demand placed on Ireland’s telecommunications infrastructure. As a result, the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation requires a change from 5 to 7 digit local telephone numbers for some customers countrywide, and in some cases, a change to area code also. This change will facilitate a continued supply of new telephone numbers. Your telephone number is changing The impact on your business is that your local telephone number will change from a 5 digit to a 7 digit number. There will also be an area code change in your neighbouring 092 and 0907 areas, where the area code will change to 094. This is good news for your business as it means that you can now call a larger area at local, rather than national rates. Please see enclosed brochure for further details. The grid below highlights the changes to your telephone number.
Example: - If your old number is (094) 41234 - Your new number will be (094) 9041234 If your old number is (094) 50123 - Your new number will be (094) 9250123 If your old number is (094) 78910 - Your new number will be (094) 9378910 We understand that a change to your telephone number may cause you inconvenience, so to ensure that the transition from 5 to 7 digits is as smooth as possible for your business, the following will occur: 1. Parallel running of numbers from October 2002- October 2003 This means that both your current 5 digit telephone number and your new 7 digit number will work in tandem until October 2003. During this period, if you or one of your customers dial either your current or new telephone number, the call will be connected seamlessly. 2. Recorded announcements until October 2004 From October 2003, your new telephone number will replace your current telephone number. Customers calling your current 5 digit telephone number from October 2003 will receive a recorded message informing them of your new number. Callers will not be charged for this information. Your current 5 digit number will appear in this year’s telephone directory (02/03) and will be available from directory enquiries. Your new 7 digit number will be in next year’s telephone directory (03/04) and directory enquiries from October 2003. This change to your number may require a change to some of your business equipment and systems, for example PABX (switch systems), and monitored alarm systems. These changes to your number are part of a series of number changes taking place across the country this year. You’ll find full details of the areas affected in the brochure enclosed.
