Public Order Crisis in Castlebar?
Claims by community leaders in Castlebar that the town has become a “no-go area” on Friday and Saturday nights have been denied by the Gardai. The latest claims come in the aftermath of incidents in the town last weekend, in which a number of people were seriously assaulted and damage was caused to a number of vehicles. While the Gardai admitted there were public order issues, they said they were no worse than in any other town of its size in the country.

Awards for Young Castlebar People
Fifteen-year-old Jason Joyce, who developed junior arthritis 7 years ago, was one of the recipients of a ‘Mayo People of the Year Award’ at a reception in Castlebar at the weekend. Jason recently performed at the Vard Sisters Concert in the Church of the Holy Rosary View Pix here
Therese Deacy from Ballynew was awarded the “Young Person of the Year with MS” at the Annual MS Banquet in Kilkenny.

Official Opening of Linenhall
The Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar will be officially opened by Arts Minister Mr. John O’Donoghue on Thursday 28th November at 4.30 pm. The former town hall has been refurbished at a cost of €1m and now comprises a modern theatre facility, dressing rooms, professional stage lighting, auditorium seating, a dedicated print gallery and workshop space.- The Linenhall Site can be found at www.thelinenhall.com
