Castlebar Mitchels Camogie v Carnmore

The girls from the Mitchels travelled for their first outing to Carnmore in Galway last Sunday. Having only taken up the game since Sept, this first game was expected to be difficult and indeed it was. However the girls, bubbling with enthusiasm and showing commendable skill with the caman gave their illustrious opponents much to think about. Although Carnmore took an early lead the Mitchels girls showed some great strokes and were indeed in hard luck for a few scores. Noreen Heston scored a great goal mid way through the game and this put more fight into the team. Whilst all are to be commended, Ann Marie Brown, Ann McGreal and Claire Horan had particularly good games. Manager and trainer Kevin O Connor was very pleased with the effort and while he saw room for improvement he was very pleased with a good performance from all the girls. Whatever about winning, all the girls were winners in competing in this their first game. Congratulations and well done. The next game is this coming week end away to Oranmore.

Presentation Night

A mighty night was held in An Sportlann last Sun night when a cheque for €4500 was handed over to Western Care Special Olympics. A full report and photos will appear next week. Whatever about games, the girls of the camogie club know how to party and this coming season is going to be one hell of great time - singing, dancing, entertaining, there is no limit to the skills of these girls

Lotto

The draw for the Lotto was held in An Sportlann on Sun last with the following results: House Draw - Peter Murphy, €20 Darragh Walsh: €20 Brian Regan. Kieran Brennan spun the wheel and just missed out on the jackpot of €3500. Eamonn Shaughnessy will spin the wheel in McCarthy’s next Sun night. Once again we ask as many members as possible to help sell tickets as well as turning up for the draw on Sun night.

Hurler: My hurley was stolen this morning

Fan: That’s terrible. Where did you lose it?

Hurler : In the car park

Fan: Did the thieves damage your car much?

Hurler : I don’t know - they stole that too.

Notes

The club welcomes back Gerry Lane, who decided to take to the sun before the season commenced. Now that he is refreshed, no doubt he will be back in action immediately. Owen Shaughnessy also had to take a bit of a break but made it back to help Mayo defeat Donegal in the NHL.
