Ballinlough Fishery

Angling conditions were ideal and fishing on the Lough was excellent during the week. Twenty-seven rods caught a total of 52 trout, 26 of which were returned.

Robert Pitman & party, Co. Galway, caught 4 rainbow trout with best at 2.5 lbs. Roy Burnett & partner, Co. Sligo, had 7 rainbow trout (5 released) with best at 1.5 lbs. David Quinn and Willie Noone, Co. Galway, also landed 7 rainbow trout, 4 of which were released. Their best fish weighed in at 2 lbs. A fine 3.5 lbs. trout was caught by James Gibbons who had another 5 trout, 4 of which he released.

Best flies for the week were Hares Ear Nymph, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Minky, Yellow Gosling, Claret Bumble, Silver Dabbler, Green Peter and Muddler patterns.

Ballinlough Fishery remains open till the end of October and fishing can be arranged by contacting Mrs. Gill at 098 26128.

Lough Conn

Angling activity on Lough was quite slow during the last week of the season. However, good numbers of smaller trout were reported by anglers who fished the Lough this past week.

Raymond Kelly, a regular visitor from Northern Ireland, fishing out of Cloghans reported a 1.5 lbs. fish and released several small trout.

Healy’s Hotel, Pontoon, ran its end of season fishing competition on Sunday, 8 October on Lough Conn & Cullin for the Healy’s Hotel Kingdom of Conn Cup. Twenty anglers took part in the competition and landed a total of 9 trout. Results were as follows: 1st prize Peter Byrne, 2nd Steward Weight, 3rd Frank Reilly.
