As part of Science Week Ireland from 9th - 16th Nov, Declan Holmes will deliver a lecture on the history of measurement in Mayo County Library, Castlebar on 11th Nov at 8pm.

Did you know that an acre was the amount of land one man with an ox could plough in one day? Ever wondered where the inch or the metre came from and why the world went metric, this lecture will answer all these questions and more. The History of measurement is the first talk in The True Physics Roadshow, which is a series of innovation physics lectures aimed at secondary schools students in Ireland. The Lecture will follow the history of measurement from Egyptian times on to the French revolution to today's units.

Ideally aimed at transition year to Leaving Certificate science students, however all members of the general public are welcome. Admission is free, for more information please contact Declan Holmes at 087 9176292 or http://www.truephysics.com
