Facing Up to Suicide. A Community Awareness Initiative.

Suicide in Ireland

The incidence of suicide and parasuicide has increased noticeably in Ireland in recent years. This trend is particularly evident among males in the 16-24 age group but is not confined to this group alone. Death by suicide leaves many unanswered questions for relatives and friends. Moreover, it presents difficult challenges to many sectors of the community.
The National Task force on Suicide recommended that "relevant professionals whether nurse or doctor, garda, prison officer or priest be given special training in confronting and responding to traumatic situations..."

This course seeks to raise public awareness of suicide. It will be of particular interest to doctors, counsellors, teachers, nurses, Gardaí, clergy, chaplains, and to anyone who has encountered suicide and parasuicide.

The course will consist of four nights 8.00-10.00 pm
