Thursday 27th September, saw Mayo-based group, ward9writers reading excerpts from their new collection of poetry and prose as well as pieces from the popular Inspirations of a Curious Kind, a beautifully crafted collection of writing which was published earlier this year.

ward9writers are a group of ten men and women who are avid writers and enjoy sharing their work with others. Drawing upon life experience, imagination and observations spanning past decades to more recent volatile times, their writing is an eclectic mix which can be poignant, humorous, tragic, mystical or downright irreverent, reflecting the diversity of the group and the range of unique literary styles which they possess.

ward9writer, Jackie Bohan said: "Work on our new collection has begun in earnest. Compiling our first anthology, Inspirations of a Curious Kind, was both challenging and rewarding but we are all passionate about writing and were eager to get back to the creative writing process and produce poetry and prose of an even better quality than before. Several of us have had our writing published since forming the ward9writers group and we hope that our new collection will reflect the growth which we have experienced as a result of our collaboration."

Excerpts from the new collection plus pieces from Inspirations of a Curious Kind were read on Thursday at The Linenhall Arts Centre at 8.00pm. There was an informal wine reception in advance of the performance with music from world-renowned musician and poet, Mike Absolom, as well as one of Ireland's foremost uilleann pipers and composers, Diarmaid Moynihan. The MC for the evening was the poet Brid Quinn.
