There are many interesting references to this case in W.E. Vaughan's recent book, Murder Trials in Ireland 1836-1914 (Dublin, 2009). Walsh was defended by local barrister Charles O'Malley who suggested that the victim had died as a result of fall. Seems that Castlebar is good at producing O'Malley barristers.
