My fondest memory of Lavelles Bakery was when Der Ryan would call to our shop in Newtown each morning en route to Achill.

As a young child I would anxiously await his arrival as I would always be given a delicious cream Donut.I used to call him "The Bun Man."

Dermot was a gentle giant,who lived justout the road from us at Blackfort. He later served as a town councillor with Castlebar U.D.C.
He was killed in a tragic accident at a level crossing just before one enters Claremorris.I always think of him as I pass this crossing and say a little prayer for him.
