a cara...lavelles bakery...whose motto was best in the west.....had many locals serve their time....bisto feeney....mr. garvey....cant remember his first name....many many more.....when mr lavelle got into his years....joe ryan his nephew came in as general manager....joe brought the bakey to new heights....like fancy goods....joe was son of profeesor gerry ryan .....professor ...teacher extroadanaire at st. geralds...known for his obsession for everyone having rosary beads.....where are the beads...was his mantra....and known for his pat lavelle special strap....joe was also a captain in the fca....and he and i soldiered together in renmore...and finner camps.....a true gent....one of the greatest....dermot his brother was one class behind me in school....but we were great friends.....his mother was a champion of cummann na bhan......they were a great family....and my memories of times with dermot are long and sharp.....tragically as brian pointed out he was killed at the kiltimagh/claremorris junction.....gerry ryan their father...he and i were both patients at merlin park.....and we had meny interesting....in depth conversations.....lavelles in castlebar...is as old as time itself.....the bridge was ameeting place for all the intelligentia....where many a political issue ...or sport result was replayed and decided...
