RAF pilot W. Urquhart-Dykes 1918

Posted by yoasties on September 26, 2012 at 10:13:41:

On 18-10-1918 a young pilot dropped a message on the lawn of the freestone family who lived in the yews, westport rd knockapuntha.
The note is signed W.U. Dykes and it is almost 100% certain that this was William Urquhart-Dykes who flew with 105 sqn reconnaisance from Castlebar RAF (the airfield was located where nowadays the Baxter factory is located).

It is also known that he met Ruth Urquhart Dykes (with whom he later raced a lot) while being stationed in Ireland.

Are there any photos, flight logs, newspaper stories, letters mentioning him that have survived in Castlebar?

Thanks
