I am sure you are all familiar with the young Welsh singer Charlotte Church. But do you recall another Welsh singer from the sixties named Mary Hopkin. Her most popular song "Those were the days my friend" became our anthem in Dublin. We sang it every chance we got. This song kept coming to mind last year every time I would post on the NB.The lyrics fit how I felt about myself and how we revisit the past to find something that we feel may be missing in our lives.Things were better or times were harder depending on who you listened to.But I digress.I atarted looking for Mary Hopkin's CD and was unsucessful.I dropped hints when the relatives were over in August last year with no sucess.Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago when my daughter gave me the CD for my birthday(yes Tempus I am still older than you)Daughters are great. She had filed the information away in her brain when I was discussing it with my brothers and sisters and had come through for me.Thank you, Kathy because you are part of my past and my future too.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND

GENE RASKIN

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A TAVERN WHERE WE USED TO RAISE A GLASS OR TWO. REMEMBER HOW WE LAUGHED AWAY THE HOURS THINK OF ALL THE GREAT THINGS WE WOULD DO.

CHORUS: THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND, WE THOUGHT THEY'D NEVER END WE'D SING AND DANCE FOR EVER AND A DAY WE'D LIVE THE LIFE WE'D CHOOSE WE'D FIGHT AND NEVER LOSE FOR WE WERE YOUNG AND SURE TO HAVE OUR WAY......LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA. THOSE WERE THE DAYS, OH YES, THOSE WERE THE DAYS

THEN THE BUSY YEARS WENT RUSHING BY US, WE LOST OUR STARRY NOTIONS ON THE WAY. IF BY CHANCE I'D SEE YOU IN THE TAVERN WE'D SMILE AT ONE ANOTHER AND WE'D SAY,

CHORUS

JUST TONIGHT I STOOD BEFORE THE TAVERN NOTHING SEEMED THE WAY IT USED TO BE IN THE GLASS I SAW A STRANGE REFLECTION WAS THAT LONELY WOMEN REALLY ME?

CHORUS

THROUGH THE DOOR THERE CAME FAMILIAR LAUGHTER. I SAW YOUR FACE AND HEARD YOU CALL MY NAME , OH MY FREIND WE'RE OLDER BUT NO WISER , FOR IN OUR HEARTS THE DREAMS ARE STILL THE SAME..............
