The Knights of Malta and The Knights of St John are one and the same, founded in Jerusalem in the late1000s.The were known as the Knight Hospitallers.There was another grouping called The Templars but the Sovereign Military Order of Malta which exists in Castlebar today is claimed to be a direct sucessor to the Medieval Hospitallers. The Order survives on public donations and running first aid courses forcompanies groups etc;
