Yes, Golden's shop was opposite the cinema, which is itself about to be pulled down. Joe Golden (son)and Eileen (one of two daughters )still live in Castlebar. Eldest daughter Mary lives in Germany as far as I know, and her husband died recently.
Stewarts (aka Duxies)ice cream and grocery shop still stands empty, but it sure could tell some stories if only it could speak!
What can one say about May Leonards? Heaven on earth to us kids. The first self service shop in Castlebar! There has been a huge void since it closed down and this town could do with a proper specialised sweet shop, afterall, we have the sweetest teeth in Europe according to the statisticians.
