Archdeacon Fallon to clear the debt of £1000 accumulated introduced the
following charges for Mass
If you entered through the front door you paid 2p
Through the south door 1d
The North door free.
Inside the church railings were placed between the piers of the nave
arcades, and the people were segregated according to the amount they
paid.
The middle aisles held the tuppenny payers and it transpired that nobody
went in the north door.A ha 'penny was then put on this door and those
who entered there were only in the ha 'penny place.
(Through Fagans Gates)(Castlebar Church circa 1930)
I suppose thats where the cinema people got the idea for the pits.
