To follow up on the discussion below,I found an article in the 1988 copy of the Parish Magazine by Michael Mullen."Memories of the '46 Carnival".
"They were memorable occasions and the town from August 25th until September 8th,1946 was filled with carnival atmosphere.The organisers of the carnival were members of Castlebar Development Association and the officials were Danny McEllin,chairman,hon secretaries Jack Cahill,Tom Baynes and Joe Bourke,Henry Hoban,Gus Wynne,Michael Heverin,John Irwin,Michael J.Egan,William Moran,Tom Gillespie,Michael Moran,Dick Gillespie,Jimmie McCormack and Hyacinth Pelly."
