Very interesting Jean. Shambles Square was/is Market Square. I'd guess Narrow Lane was/is Cavendish Lane. Can anybody tell why the name changes were not made ? In 1920, with the War of Independence underway, Republican feelings were 'high'. Maybe the Castlebar Urban Council was expressing Republican sentiment ?
