I went to school with a young boy named Aiden Shiels, lived on the Station Road in Castlebar, perhaps near Saleen. I think his father was with the Board of Works or the Land Commissioner. We were marched down from St. Patrick's National School to the dispensary, near the old County Home, to be inoculated. I rememember Aiden was very nervous. The public health nurse at the time was Kathleen Duffy,later to become matron of the County Hospital, and Dr. Thornton was the medico on duty. Long time ago. Anyone remember the Shiels family or what became of Aiden?
