Johnny Waters was a tailor that lived and worked opposite our house in Rush Street Castlebar. He and his family lived and worked in that same house. True the house now is a bookmakers, but before that it was the Moira cafe, one of the truly great haunts of ours as teenagers, it had a juke box, and the two old ladies who ran it made excellent chips. I'll bet many of my friends have happy memories of the Moira

Getting back to Johnny waters, I can still vividly see him sitting crosslegged on a big flat table , inside the main front window. We used to "borrow" some of Johnny's tailors chalk !!!!!!
He often played cards in our house in Rush Street. I was very friendly with his son Eamonn, and possibly his daughter Esther?. I cannot remember any others of the family. I think the family went to McHale Road after living in Rush Street.
He was a small dynamic little man, always rushing around, and did very well to rear such a large family on such a small income.

I wrote an article several years ago about rush street and the surrounding areas, and it was published in the Castlebar parish Magazine, what year ? I'm not too sure . Drop me a line at Fortfield, castlebar, and when i find it I will post it to you

Best wishes.
