I remember a Gavin's bakery on Main St (more or less where Mens and Boys Wear is now). They sold a beautiful cylindrical shaped loaf.
Goldens of Spencer St sold the famous Golden Loaf.
On Staball there was Comers. I remember them delivering the bread in a horse-drawn wagon (and I'm not a hundred years old!)
As regards workers in bakeries, how about Tommy Lawless (Sadie's father),Jimmy Ainsworth, Tom McDonald (Joe, Cyril and Padraic's father), Tommy Dawson (Donal's father) all of whom worked in Lavelles.A Mr Murray from Borradruma drove a van for Lavelles as did Ker Gavin and a Mr Feeney from Davitt's Terrace.
