There was a church in the old cemetery, said to be 300 years old. Some of the ruins are still visible. There is a tabular stone in the cemetery over the burial place of James Faulkney, which states he was 120 years old at the time of his death. The area along the road at the Church of Ireland was known as Church Hill and Mountain View at one time was known as Dalys Terrace, probably named after James Daly, editor of the Connaugtht Telegraph and co-founder of the Land League with Michael Davitt.
