Great photos PJ.

I had often been told that there was a historical inaccuracy in depicting the Union Jack in the painting in the Humbert.

However a little research shows that although the present design was made official in 1801 the Union Jack did exist before that from around 1606. It is likely however that this Union Jack dating from 1606 was different from the present day one and therefore the painting has a slight inaccuracy. More than likely the flag dating prior to 1801 did not have the red diaganols which are representative of St.Patrick Cross.

Now can someone else research when the tricolor (green, white and gold) came into being, before or after 1798? The link below would indicate an inaccuracy here too.
