Just as an afterword to your excellent discussion, Thomas Francis Meagher is memorialized with a magnificent mounted statue placed directly in front of the Capitol building in Helena, Montana. There have been various efforts by the legislature or special interest groups to remove the statue from it's position of prominence, but so far the efforts have been repelled.
