Jack Cassidy's father was Bill Cassidy, a veteran of World War I. Town cryer in Castlebar for many years . . . Francie Philbin, also a war veteran . . . Jack Cahill, Lucan Street, 'Showery' Murtagh, Lucan Street, may have been a tinsmith . . . Charlie Brinklown, town foreman, cleaned the town river with a flat-bottom boat . . . Charlie Guthrie, bonfire builder and eel catcher in the town river . . . Jim Ormsby, drove McGarrys horse-drawn hearse, with Michael 'Chinee' Carney riding shotgun . .. 'Botha' Roache, awarded medal for bravery in World War I, part of old Castlebar, gone but not forgotten.
