I had the opportunity last night to watch a traditional music program from Galicia television. The music lacked the 'beryl' but it was Celtic all the way through, as were the dances - even the Catalan and flamingo had a special resonance. I was reminded of a Canadian Maritimer who maintained that he could tell from the way his daughter played the fiddle on a given day whether she had been playing the night before with Irish (Canadian), Scottish (Canadian), French (Canadian)or Metis fiddlers. The format of the show was reminded me for some reason of a Mayo Men's Association in the Burlington from years past, but Fr. Shannon was not there.

Years ago Liam Og O'Flynn presented a couple of lovely programs of Irish and Galician music from the Mansion House (?). I particularly remember driving from Castlebar to Ballintuber Abbey one lovely starlit night in November with Liam's and his Galician guests music playing on RE. It was also a November night to remember deceased family members especially those whose memory intrudes unbidden, and I was driving in relative's country.

The evening was saddened somewhat by the appearance around the town of Christy Moore posters announcing his new, post heart attack, come back. Sadley, this was long after Planxty had self destructed, and long gone were the days when Planxty's live music captivated and elevated the spirit from Clare to the Aran Islands to Donegal to Carlow and other venues.
