Reading a message below about Br. Flavian and the window pole posted by JDP, brought a funny incident to mind. Mention was made abut the room upstairs with the skylight, facing the County Home. Our class was in the fortunate position of having to reside in the pre fabs out the back. One day when a certain large rotund,white haired brother came into class, he has forgotten his small case which contained his books and other teaching material, including he leather strap.
He asked a pupil to go to the window sill facing the county home and collect his case. After about 30 minutes or so, the out of breath pupil arrived back empty handed. "Where is the case my good man", enquired the brother. "Well, I went to the County Home brother, I looked on every window sill and I spoke to one of the Nuns there, and she said that there
was no case there"!!!! The retort was swift : "I said the window upstairs, facing the County Home......get it NOW".
I presume that the brother in question is no longer on this earth, but the pupil in question has gone on to establish a thriving business, which has benefitted enormously as a result of the so called celtic tiger economy. He still resides in Mayo and we meet up occasionally.
Note to JDP : SAY NOTHING!!!
