Incorrect Jean!! That Dever's shop was Michael Dever who was married to Catty Moran. Micheal was a brother of Peter who had the shop at the corner of Ellison Street / Castle Street. After Peter's shop was Frank Beckett's, about whom it is said, failed to open the shop at the regular hour of 7 am. one morning (he opened early to facilitate the workers in St. Mary's hospital to but cigs. and tobacco) and some bright spark stuck a notice on the door which read : "He is not dead but sleepeth" The Plunkett's lived with Frank and there were 2 girls in that family called Sheila and Vivienne. The last I heard of Viv was that she was in Canada.
Next door was Maggie Bourke, no relation of Teddy Bourke of the bicycle shop. As far as I know, Teddy's sister Madge, was married to Brendan Tuohy, the auctioneer and lived in Ballintubber House. Another sister Mary worked for Peter Ryan the Vet. and later with Geoffrey Bourke Vet. at Station Road.
Every Sunday after serving 8 o'clock mass, I used to go into Teddy Bourke's and get a few packets of Craven A cigarettes for him and the Sunday papers and he would always give me the price of an ice cream. Tommy Ansboro worked for Teddy for years repairing bicycles.
