There was a son Francis but he was some years older than me. I remember Larry Cresham - I didn't know he was Bom Bom's father. Mr. Taphouse, dentist - the only dentist that I have never heard a good word about. His surgery was in the last house before the hill on Station Road. I have heard tales of no anesthetic, pull don't fill, and broken roots left to fester. Whatever became of him?

The Mayo News records that the first public meeting in connection with the establishment of the Hat Factory was held in the Courthouse in early March 1939. The meeting was chaired by James Chambers, Chairman of the UDC. Michael J. Egan read correspondence from the Industrial Credit Corporation. The total capital required was £85,000 which would be made up of 40,000 cumulative preferred shares of £1 each and 45,000 ordinary shares of £1 each. In order that Mr. Claessens might obtain control he subscribed for 25,000 ordinary shares. A group of Castlebar investors were prepared to subscribe a sum of £8,000, leaving £52,000 to be raised otherwise.
