Having been to the convent many many times....as a visitor only, I used to be treated like royalty.
I never saw so much fruit in my life! I well remember the day of my first holy communion meeting two of the then elderly nuns on the Mall,
(remember how they always walked in pairs?), and I was invited to the convent and got lemonade, buns and lots of fruit. If ever you were asked to do a message for them, you were always rewarded.
Remember the small opening in the front of the highly polished front door? It was a little look out hatch on a hinge. When you rang the doorbell, you would never hear the nun coming to answer the door, they walked so silently. Then all of a sudden the hatch opened and a nun peered out. And of course the smell of the mansion floor polish once you got inside. How times have changed.
