On March 3, 1934, the Mayo News reported that the new Vocational School was opened on the preceding Monday. According to the paper "The subjects to be taught are, for boys - Manual Instruction, general subjects, physical culture and religious instruction; for girls: Domestic economy, commerce, general subjects and religious instruction. The teachers were Mr. Thomas O'Donnell, Head Master and teacher of general subjects; Mr. Eamon Whelan, Manual Instructor; Miss Margaret Waters, teacher of commercial subjects and Miss Moylan, domestic economy instructor".
