A chance encounter with an internet cafe has allowed me to post this. It has been another enjoyable St. Patrick's Day in Castlebar. It was a Sunday and I had been to Paddy Hoban's with a few of the crowd and the craic was good. As I ambled contentedly homeward I came to the TF and decided, on the spur of the moment, to go in. I hadn't intended to go to the dance but I suddenly felt I should. Frank Nolan and Paddy Cannon were on the door. Good night says I as I prepared to pay. Arrragh go on in says Paddy. Thanks says I and in I went. The place was packed. And then, almost immediately, "I saw her standing there, and how could I dance with another?" Joe Dolan's "oh me, oh my, you're such a good looking woman" was playing so I asked her out to dance and thus met the Dearly Beloved. Fate? Karma? Que sera sera? She and I were more than surprised to discover that we had both grown up in Castlebar, gone to school at the same time, and even gone to the same hops, yet had never met. Obviously, "there is a time for every purpose under heaven". After 31 years she is still the Dearly Beloved and still a good looking woman! A happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone.
